Inner tie rod end (right or left hand) designed for 1986–2004 Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury models. This 338mm overall length steering component secures the steering rack to the outer tie rod, maintaining proper wheel alignment and steering response. Built for durability and reliable performance, it restores precise steering geometry, reduces play and vibration, and helps prevent premature tire wear. Ideal for restoration, repair, or routine maintenance of older Ford-family vehicles, this replacement part offers a direct-fit solution to bring steering back to factory-like condition.
Features:
- Fits 1986–2004 Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles (inner tie rod end, right or left hand, 338mm overall length).
- Constructed from hardened steel with corrosion-resistant finish for long service life.
- Restores steering precision by securing the steering rack to the tie rod and eliminating play.
- Easy to install as a direct replacement for worn or damaged inner tie rods during steering system repair or restoration.
- Helps reduce vibration and uneven tire wear by maintaining correct alignment geometry.
- Includes greaseable design or sealed joint (depending on application) for reliable operation and reduced maintenance
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 45-90 minutes
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on a level surface, set parking brake, and block rear wheels.
- Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, raise vehicle with jack, and support securely on jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
- Locate the inner tie rod on the steering rack and inspect surrounding components.
- Remove any steering rack boots or clamps to access the inner tie rod. Slide boot back or remove clamp as needed.
- Disconnect the outer tie rod end from the steering knuckle using a tie rod separator or pickle fork; mark or note the outer tie rod position to preserve alignment if possible.
- Use an inner tie rod removal tool or suitable wrench to unthread the inner tie rod from the steering rack. Protect the rack threads during removal.
- Clean the steering rack threads and apply a light coat of anti-seize or appropriate grease. Thread the new inner tie rod onto the rack to the correct depth (match original engagement), and tighten to the manufacturer-specified torque.
- Reinstall the steering rack boot and secure clamps. Reconnect the outer tie rod and tighten to specified torque; replace cotter pin or retaining hardware if applicable.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to specification.
- Because inner tie rod replacement affects alignment, have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure proper steering and tire wear.
