Instructions:
- Park on level ground, set parking brake, loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Raise the front of the vehicle with a floor jack and support securely on jack stands; remove the wheel.
- Apply penetrating lubricant to fasteners and ball joint stud; remove any cotter pin and castle nut from the ball joint stud.
- Separate the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle using a ball joint separator or pickle fork; avoid damaging the knuckle.
- Unbolt the ball joint from the control arm flange (retain hardware if reusing per local regulations).
- Remove the old ball joint and clean the control arm mounting area of debris and corrosion.
- Install the replacement ball joint into the control arm, ensuring the boot and retaining plate are seated correctly; torque mounting bolts to factory specifications.
- Insert the ball joint stud into the steering knuckle, install the castle nut and torque to specification; secure with a new cotter pin if applicable.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to specification.
- Have a professional alignment performed after installation to ensure correct suspension geometry and tire wear.
