Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, chock rear wheels, loosen front lug nuts slightly.
- Raise front of vehicle with jack and secure on jack stands; remove front wheel.
- Mark the current position of the outer tie rod on the threaded portion to preserve alignment; count turns while removing to match new part if needed.
- Loosen the jam nut on the inner/steering tie rod and back it off to allow removal of the outer tie rod.
- Remove cotter pin and loosen castle nut on the tie rod end stud; use a tie rod end puller or pickle fork to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
- Unscrew the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod assembly. Compare length/turn count to the new part and adjust as needed to match pre-marked position.
- Thread the new outer tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the marked position, tighten the jam nut to specification, and insert the stud into the knuckle. Torque the castle nut to the manufacturer’s spec and secure with a new cotter pin.
- If supplied, grease the fitting with a grease gun until fresh grease appears at the seal.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, torque the lug nuts to spec, and perform a professional alignment to ensure proper toe and steering geometry.
