Greaseable idler arm designed to restore steering geometry and eliminate play in vintage Corvettes from 1963 through 1982. This direct-fit replacement supports the steering linkage on the passenger side, providing a durable pivot point that helps maintain proper alignment and responsive steering. Constructed from high-strength steel with a replaceable grease fitting, the part resists wear and extends service life compared to worn OE components. Ideal for restoration projects or routine maintenance, this idler arm improves handling feel, reduces wandering and vibration, and makes front-end adjustments more reliable.
Features:
- Fits 1963-1982 Chevrolet Corvette (all models within these years).
- Greaseable design with a zerk fitting for easy lubrication and longer life.
- High-strength steel construction for durability and resistance to road wear.
- Restores proper steering geometry and reduces play for improved handling.
- Direct-fit replacement for straightforward installation and alignment.
- Prevents premature wear of related steering components and aids in safe vehicle operation.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 60-90 minutes
Instructions:
- Secure vehicle on a level surface, chock rear wheels, lift front end and support on jack stands. Remove the front wheels if needed for access.
- Apply penetrating oil to the idler arm mounting nuts and the ball stud nut; allow time to soak.
- Locate the idler arm on the passenger side of the frame where the steering linkage attaches. Support the steering linkage to prevent damage when the arm is removed.
- Use a tie rod separator or pickle fork to disconnect the idler arm ball stud from the center link. Remove the nut and separate the joint.
- Remove the mounting nuts or bolts that secure the idler arm to the frame. Carefully lower and remove the old idler arm.
- Position the new greaseable idler arm in place and hand-thread the mounting hardware. Torque the mounting nuts/bolts to the factory specification.
- Reconnect the ball stud to the center link and torque the nut to specification. Re-check all fasteners for proper torque.
- With the new idler arm installed, grease the zerk fitting using a grease gun until fresh grease appears at the boot or the specified amount is applied.
- Lower the vehicle, reinstall wheels if removed, and perform a steering alignment check. Test drive to confirm proper steering response and absence of play.
