Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, chock rear wheels, loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Raise the front of the vehicle with a jack and secure on jack stands; remove the front right wheel.
- Apply penetrating oil to the ball joint nut and mounting points; allow to soak if necessary.
- Remove the cotter pin and loosen/remove the castle nut securing the ball joint stud to the steering knuckle.
- Use a ball joint separator or press to separate the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle; take care not to damage the boot or surrounding components.
- Unbolt and remove the old lower ball joint from the control arm (retain any mounting hardware if reusing per service manual guidance).
- Clean the control arm mounting area; align and press the new ball joint into the control arm using a ball joint press kit until fully seated.
- Reinstall mounting bolts/nuts and torque to factory specifications; insert stud into steering knuckle, tighten the castle nut to specified torque and install a new cotter pin.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque wheel lug nuts to specification.
- Perform a test drive to verify steering feel and check for unusual noises; have wheel alignment checked and adjusted if necessary.
