Front lower left-hand ball joint designed for 1961-1966 Ford Thunderbird vehicles. This heavy-duty replacement part restores steering precision and suspension geometry, helping to maintain safe handling and even tire wear. Built from durable materials with corrosion-resistant finishes, it provides long-lasting reliability and straightforward fitment for restoration projects and maintenance.
Features:
  • Fits: 1961-1966 Ford Thunderbird (front lower, left-hand side).
  • Direct-fit replacement for restoring proper suspension geometry and steering control.
  • Hardened steel ball and stud for long service life under load.
  • Press-fit housing with corrosion-resistant finish to resist rust and wear.
  • Helps reduce play, vibration, and uneven tire wear associated with worn ball joints.
  • Designed for easy installation during suspension rebuilds or routine maintenance.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 3/5
  • Estimated time: 60-120 minutes
Suggested Tools:
  • Floor jack and jack stands
  • Wheel chocks
  • Socket and ratchet set
  • Breaker bar
  • Torque wrench
  • Ball joint press or C-clamp with adapters
  • Hammer and drift/punch
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Wire brush
  • Penetrating oil
  • Safety glasses and gloves
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake, and place wheel chocks behind rear wheels.
  2. Loosen lug nuts of the front left wheel slightly with the vehicle on the ground.
  3. Raise the front of the vehicle with a floor jack and support securely on jack stands; remove the front left wheel.
  4. Apply penetrating oil to fasteners on the lower control arm and ball joint; allow to soak if corroded.
  5. Remove cotter pin and castle nut (if equipped) from the ball joint stud, then separate the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle using a ball joint separator or suitable puller.
  6. Unbolt any retaining hardware securing the ball joint housing to the control arm (if applicable) and remove the old ball joint. If press-fit, use a ball joint press to push out the old unit.
  7. Clean mating surfaces in the control arm with a wire brush and inspect for damage; replace control arm if excessively worn or cracked.
  8. Press the new ball joint into the control arm using a ball joint press and appropriate adapters; ensure it seats fully and in the correct orientation.
  9. Reinstall the ball joint stud into the steering knuckle, tighten the castle nut to the manufacturer's specified torque, and secure with a new cotter pin if required.
  10. Reinstall any removed hardware, torque all fasteners to factory specifications, and reattach the wheel.
  11. Lower the vehicle, torque lug nuts to specification, and perform a visual check for proper clearance and operation.
  12. After installation, have wheel alignment checked and adjusted as needed to ensure correct tire wear and handling.
