Instructions:
- Park on level ground, engage parking brake, and chock rear wheels. Loosen the front wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Raise the vehicle and support securely on jack stands. Remove the front wheel to access the tie rod assembly.
- Measure the exposed length of the tie rod or count turns on the thread from a reference point so you can approximate the alignment when installing the new part.
- Loosen the jam nut on the inner tie rod (if applicable) and back it off several turns to free the outer tie rod end.
- Separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle using a tie rod puller or a pickle fork. Be careful not to damage the threads.
- Unscrew the outer tie rod end from the inner rod (or remove inner as required by your vehicle). Keep track of any spacers, washers, or orientation marks.
- Thread the new left-hand tie rod end onto the inner rod to the same measurement or number of turns recorded earlier. If replacing an inner unit, follow vehicle-specific removal/installation steps.
- Reattach the tie rod end stud to the steering knuckle and tighten the castle nut or nut to the manufacturer's torque specification. Install a new cotter pin if required.
- Tighten the jam nut (if used) to lock the assembly in place, and torque to specification.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to spec.
- Because thread-count or measurement methods are an approximation, take the vehicle to a qualified shop for a professional alignment immediately after installation to ensure proper steering geometry and tire wear.
- If the replacement part has a grease fitting, apply grease per recommendation and inspect periodically.
