The 1965-1966 Chevrolet idler arm is a direct-fit steering component designed to support and stabilize the steering linkage on classic Chevrolet full-size cars and trucks from 1965–1966. It maintains proper steering geometry by providing a pivot point for the center link, reducing play and ensuring predictable handling. Built with durable materials and engineered to original specifications, this idler arm is ideal for restoration projects or maintenance upgrades where reliable steering performance and longevity are required.
Features:
- Fits 1965-1966 Chevrolet full-size models (most cars and light trucks; verify chassis application before purchase)
- Constructed from heavy-duty forged steel for strength and longevity
- Provides a stable pivot for the center link to reduce steering play and improve alignment
- Pre-greased bushing design for smoother operation and reduced wear
- Direct replacement for worn or damaged idler arms in restoration and maintenance applications
- Easy bolt-on installation with OE-style mounting points
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 45-90 minutes
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on a level surface, set parking brake, and block rear wheels.
- Raise the front of the vehicle with a floor jack and secure on jack stands. Remove the front wheels for better access if desired.
- Locate the idler arm on the passenger side frame rail connected to the center link.
- Spray mounting bolts and ball stud nut with penetrating oil and allow to soak.
- Support the center link with a small jack or pry bar to prevent sudden movement when removing the idler arm.
- Remove the nut securing the idler arm ball stud to the center link. Use a puller if the stud is stuck.
- Unbolt the idler arm mounting bolts from the frame. Remove the old idler arm.
- Position the new idler arm in place and loosely install the mounting bolts and ball stud nut.
- Torque the mounting bolts and ball stud nut to the vehicle manufacturer’s specifications.
- If equipped with a grease fitting, apply grease via a grease gun until fresh grease appears at the bushing; if pre-greased, no further action needed.
- Reinstall wheels (if removed), lower the vehicle, and test steering for proper operation. Have a professional alignment performed if necessary.
