Steering Pitman Arm engineered to replace worn or damaged units on classic Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth full-size and mid-size models from 1962 through 1972. This pitman arm secures the connection between the steering gearbox and centerlink, translating box output into precise steering motion. Built for durability and accurate alignment, it restores proper steering geometry, reduces play and vibration, and helps maintain safe, predictable handling on restored or daily-driven vintage vehicles. Designed for direct replacement with OE-style fit and finish, it provides reliable service life and straightforward installation.
Features:
- Fits 1962-1972 Chrysler, Dodge, and Plymouth models (full-size and mid-size passenger cars and light trucks) – verify chassis and steering box compatibility.
- Constructed from high-strength forged steel for long-lasting durability and resistance to fatigue.
- Transfers steering gearbox motion to the centerlink to restore accurate steering alignment and reduce play.
- Direct-replacement design for easy installation and proper fitment with existing steering components.
- Ideal for restoration projects or maintenance to improve handling, safety, and steering responsiveness.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 45-90 minutes
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, set parking brake, and block rear wheels.
- Raise front of vehicle with a floor jack and secure on jack stands; remove the front wheel(s) if needed for access.
- Locate the steering gearbox output shaft and the existing pitman arm; spray penetrating oil on fasteners and let soak.
- Remove the nut securing the pitman arm to the gearbox sector shaft using the appropriate socket; loosen any cotter pins or retaining hardware.
- Install a pitman arm puller and apply even pressure to separate the pitman arm from the sector shaft; avoid striking with a hammer directly to prevent damage.
- Compare the new pitman arm to the removed unit to confirm correct orientation and spline alignment.
- Slide the new pitman arm onto the gearbox sector shaft, aligning splines; seat fully and install the retaining nut. Torque the nut to the vehicle manufacturer’s specification.
- Reattach any cotter pins or locking hardware, reconnect the centerlink/drag link using the factory hardware, and torque all fasteners to specification.
- Lower the vehicle, test steering operation for smoothness and correct travel, and have a professional wheel alignment performed if necessary.
