Direct-fit outer tie rod end for 1968-1974 Buick, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac passenger cars. This replacement outer tie rod end secures the steering linkage to the wheel spindle, maintaining correct toe alignment and safe steering response. Built to restore worn steering components, it reduces play, improves steering precision, and helps prevent uneven tire wear. Constructed from durable materials with a corrosion-resistant finish and a sealed ball joint, it provides reliable, long-lasting performance and straightforward installation for restoration or maintenance projects.

  • Wheel chocks
  • Lug wrench or impact gun
  • Tie rod end puller or pickle fork
  • Adjustable wrench or appropriate size open-end wrenches
  • Torque wrench
  • Pliers
  • Hammer
  • Tape measure or alignment tool
  • Penetrating oil (optional)
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake, and place wheel chocks behind rear wheels.
  2. Loosen lug nuts on the front wheel for the side being serviced but do not remove them yet.
  3. Raise the front of the vehicle with a jack and support securely on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
  4. Locate the outer tie rod end at the steering knuckle. Spray penetrating oil on fasteners if corroded.
  5. Loosen the jam nut on the inner tie rod end where it contacts the outer tie rod. Note or measure the length/turns to preserve alignment.
  6. Remove the cotter pin and loosen the castle nut (or retaining nut) securing the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
  7. Separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle using a tie rod puller or a pickle fork. Tap gently with a hammer if needed to release.
  8. Unscrew the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod. Count turns or match the original length to maintain approximate alignment.
  9. Thread the new outer tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the same position or measured length. Tighten the jam nut to secure.
  10. Insert the stud into the steering knuckle, install the castle nut (or retaining nut) and torque to the vehicle manufacturer's specification. Install a new cotter pin if applicable.
  11. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to specification.
  12. Have a professional wheel alignment performed as soon as possible to correct toe and ensure even tire wear and proper steering.
