Instructions:
- Park vehicle on a level surface, engage parking brake and place wheel chocks behind rear wheels.
- Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, lift front of vehicle with floor jack and support securely on jack stands, then remove the wheel.
- Locate the inner tie rod end at the steering rack or box and apply penetrating oil to the lock nut and joint if corroded.
- Loosen and remove the outer tie rod end from the steering knuckle (if needed) to gain access or to allow turning of the assembly.
- Loosen the jam/lock nut securing the inner tie rod, then use a tie rod end puller or pickle fork to separate the joint from the steering rack or linkage.
- Unscrew and remove the old inner tie rod from the rack or steering box. Inspect rack threads and seals for damage or leaks.
- Install the new inner tie rod by threading it onto the rack to the correct depth; hand-start and then tighten to the vehicle manufacturer's torque specification.
- Reinstall and properly torque the jam/lock nut against the tie rod end, then reattach the outer tie rod end and any cotter pins or retainers removed.
- Reinstall wheel, lower vehicle, and torque wheel lug nuts to specification.
- Have a professional alignment performed or adjust toe settings using measurement tools to ensure correct steering geometry and prevent premature tire wear.
