Front upper control arm (right or left) engineered to restore correct suspension geometry and steering response for 1961–1966 Ford and Mercury vehicles. Designed to replace worn or damaged factory arms, this component secures the upper ball joint and spindle connection, helping maintain camber and caster alignment while absorbing road stresses. Built for durability and reliability, it provides a solid mounting point for the upper suspension and is suitable for restoration projects or routine maintenance that require OEM-style fit and function.
Features:
- Fits 1961-1966 Ford and Mercury full-size models (front upper control arm, right or left hand).
- Constructed from heavy-duty stamped steel for strength and long service life.
- Replaces worn upper control arms to restore steering geometry and handling.
- Secures the upper ball joint and reduces play for improved steering response.
- Corrosion-resistant finish helps protect against road elements and aging.
- Direct replacement for restoration and maintenance — simple bolt-on installation.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 1-2 hours per side
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, chock rear wheels, loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Raise front of vehicle with a floor jack and support securely on jack stands; remove the front wheel.
- Apply penetrating oil to upper control arm mounting bolts and ball joint nut; allow time to soak.
- Support the lower control arm or spindle with a jack or stand to prevent sudden drop when ball joint is released.
- Remove the cotter pin (if present) and loosen the upper ball joint nut; separate the ball joint from the spindle using a ball joint separator or pickle fork.
- Unbolt the upper control arm mounting bolts at the frame; retain hardware if reusing or replace as recommended.
- Remove the old control arm and compare to the new arm for orientation and length; transfer any grease fittings if applicable.
- Install the new upper control arm into the frame mounts and hand-tighten mounting bolts to hold position.
- Reconnect the upper ball joint to the spindle and tighten the nut to the manufacturer's specified torque; install a new cotter pin if required.
- Torque the control arm mounting bolts to specification with the suspension at ride height if specified by vehicle manual (or follow manufacturer torque sequence).
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, torque lug nuts to specification, and perform a test drive to confirm handling.
- Have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure proper camber and caster settings.
