Instructions:
- Secure vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake, place wheel chocks, and lift front of vehicle with jack; support on jack stands.
- Remove the front wheel to access the tie rod assembly.
- Loosen the jam nut on the inner or adjusting sleeve that secures the outer tie rod end.
- Remove the cotter pin (if present) and unfasten the castle nut or nut securing the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
- Use a tie rod end puller or pickle fork to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle; avoid damage to the boot.
- Unscrew the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod or adjusting sleeve, counting turns or measuring distance from a reference mark to preserve alignment.
- Install the new outer tie rod end by threading onto the inner tie rod to the same number of turns or measured length, then position in the steering knuckle.
- Tighten the castle nut to the manufacturer's specified torque and install a new cotter pin if required, or torque the securing nut to spec.
- Tighten the jam nut against the outer tie rod end to lock the adjustment in place.
- Grease the new tie rod end if equipped with a grease fitting using a grease gun.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the wheel lug nuts to spec.
- Have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure correct toe and optimum tire wear and handling.
