Greaseable idler arm with bracket kit designed to restore steering geometry and eliminate play on 1961-1966 Chevrolet and GMC trucks. This heavy-duty replacement secures the passenger-side of the steering linkage, providing a lubricated pivot point that reduces vibration and premature wear. Constructed from hardened steel and finished for corrosion resistance, the assembly includes a grease fitting for routine maintenance and a bracket kit for straightforward fitment. Ideal for restoration projects or maintenance to improve steering feel and safety.

  • Pitman arm or ball joint puller (if needed)
  • Torque wrench
  • Hammer and punch

  • Penetrating oil
Instructions:
  1. Park on level ground, chock rear wheels, loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, then lift the front of the vehicle and secure on jack stands. Remove the front wheel on the passenger side if needed for access.
  2. Apply penetrating oil to idler arm and bracket fasteners, then remove the nut and disconnect the idler arm from the steering linkage (use puller if ball joint is seized).
  3. Remove the mounting bolts that secure the idler arm bracket to the frame. Retain any reusable hardware or discard and use supplied hardware if included.
  4. Compare the new assembly to the removed unit to confirm correct orientation and hardware. Position the new bracket and idler arm assembly on the frame and hand-start the mounting bolts.
  5. Torque the bracket mounting bolts to the vehicle manufacturer's specified torque (refer to factory service manual). Reconnect the steering linkage and tighten the nut to factory torque specifications.
  6. Install the wheel (if removed), lower the vehicle, then torque wheel lug nuts to specification.
  7. Use a grease gun to lubricate the idler arm zerk fitting until fresh grease is visible at the seals. Check steering for proper operation and verify there is no binding or excessive play.
  8. Test drive at low speed to confirm steering feel and re-check all fasteners for proper torque after initial road use.
