Front upper ball joint designed for 1954–1957 Ford and Mercury passenger cars. This direct-fit replacement secures the upper control arm to the steering knuckle, maintaining proper suspension alignment and steering geometry. Built for durability and reliable performance, it restores safe handling and reduces play and vibration caused by worn joints. Ideal for restoration projects and routine maintenance, this ball joint offers dependable fastening and long service life while being straightforward to install with common shop tools.

  • Floor jack and jack stands
  • Socket and ratchet set
  • Torque wrench
  • Ball joint press or C-clamp with appropriate adapters
  • Hammer and punch or pickle fork (if needed)
  • Pliers
  • Wheel chocks
  • Penetrating lubricant
Instructions:
  1. Park on level ground, chock rear wheels, loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly and lift vehicle using floor jack; support with jack stands and remove the wheel.
  2. Spray fasteners with penetrating lubricant. Remove cotter pin and castle nut from the upper ball joint stud (if equipped).
  3. Separate the upper control arm from the steering knuckle using a ball joint separator, pickle fork, or by pressing out the stud.
  4. Support the control arm and remove any retaining clips or rivets securing the ball joint to the control arm (replace rivets with bolts if applicable).
  5. Use a ball joint press to press out the old ball joint from the control arm. Clean the bore and inspect the control arm for damage or excessive wear.
  6. Press the new ball joint into the control arm bore until fully seated. Install any new retaining hardware or clips supplied.
  7. Reattach the upper control arm to the steering knuckle, install the castle nut and torque to factory specification, then insert a new cotter pin if applicable.
  8. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque wheel lug nuts to specification. Test drive slowly and recheck fasteners and alignment.
  9. After installation, inspect for proper steering/suspension operation and have a wheel alignment performed if necessary.
